Bird festivals: The Celebration of birds.

Looking for a day packed with birdy fun? Well a great way to enjoy birding is by attending a bird festival. Bird festivals celebrate the culture of birders and highlights the characteristic of the birding community. Bird festivals are a great way to connect with the nature and to be introduced to new birds in new habitats. Most are organized in a way to get people to the best birding areas at the optimal time of the year, not to mention they are an excellent way to meet people that share your passion of birding and nature. Festival are both for the new birder and the experienced ones. This diverse interaction between experts and beginners, locals and non-locals, allows for effortless learning and sharing.

Many festivals coincide with spring or fall migration and Washington has almost as many festivals as there are months. Birding in Washington is wonderful due to the fact that it is on the Pacific flyway. The Pacific Flyway is a major north-south flyway for migratory birds in America, extending from Alaska to Patagonia. Migratory birds travel some or all of this distance, following food sources, heading to breeding grounds, or traveling to overwintering sites every year.

That means that Washington is a vital part of the migration routes of a variety of birds. This allows bird watchers splendid views of seabirds, waders, Snow Geese, Trumpeter Swans, Bald Eagles, Sandhill Cranes, hundreds of thousands of shorebirds, raptors, and many of North America’s songbirds. Choose your delight as there is a bird festival for everyone. Which bird festival will you attend or will you attend them all? Below is a list of bird festivals in Washington State.
