What a treat to see this Cedar Waxwing as i was walking back from photographing some shore birds along the river. It was perched in a tree along the trail as the evening light illuminated its silky collection of yellow, brown, and gray feathers. Cedar Waxwings have crested heads, black throats, and black masks. Cedar Waxwings are social birds that you’re likely to see in flocks. They sit in fruiting trees swallowing berries whole. Being non-territorial they will often groom each other. To find them you should look in woodlands of all kinds, and at farms, orchards, and suburban gardens where there are fruiting trees or shrubs.
