Northern Harrier Gliding

Northern Harrier

Photograph of a Northern Harrier taken at the West 90 ( Outside of Bow, WA). The Northern Harrier or marsh hawk, hunts prey consisting primarily  rodents and small birds by detecting them using their extremely keen hearing. The Northern Harrier as has an owlish looking face which aids with hearing its prey in the vegetation as it glides low over marsh and grasslands. Its easy to identify them in flight, by looking for the white rump patch and the distinctive V-shape they hold their wings in during flight.
