Marbled Godwit at Cannon Beach Oregon

Marbled Godwit

This Marbled Godwit was photographed on Cannon Beach in Oregon. I was lucky enough to spot it on the beach notwithstanding that my main focus was to photograph Haystack Rock and its colonies of Gulls and Cormorants. Although the picture above is of the Godwit in flight when I stopped the large shore bird alone, it was probing the sand almost machine like looking for food. They primarily eat insects or crustaceans, but also eat parts of marine plants.

The Marbled Godwit is a large shorebird with a slightly upturned bill with a dark tip with a pink base. They have long legs with cinnamon under wings, with a base of parti-colored brown. However in the winter they are plain underneath.
